Deirdre Laughton Bio:

Deirdre Laughton was born and raised in New York City.  Trained in dance and theater at  Joffrey and Alvin Ailey as well as the High School of Performing Arts; she was a dancer and choreographer before she began her self taught journey as a painter and poet.  She also holds a masters degree in education and works as a sign language interpreter for Hunter College.

She has exhibited her work in NYC at the Port Authority Holiday Arts exhibit the Ryan Chelsea-Clinton Center and the Times square Hotel Annual Arts Event.  She is  currently living in Brooklyn and her work has been showcased there at the Bay Ridge Festival of the Arts, The Trestle gallery at Brooklyn Art Space, the 440 Gallery and the Stand Project.  Her commissioned mural "Such Morning Songs" is permanently on display at Our Saviors Preschool.

Her traveling art installation "Black Lives Matter: Mother and Child" is her first strongly political work.  As a mother of a 17 year old boy, watching other mothers losing their sons over and over again she was compelled to express her grief and outrage and call for change.  She is thrilled to have her work presented at the Bootleg Theatre in Los Angeles and that the City Players have invited her to have her work as part of their  2016 production of Utopia.

"Black Lives Matter: Mother and Child" is available as a traveling exhibition throughout the US and worldwide. All proceeds from any Black Lives Matter works will be donated to the cause after expenses.

Art is available for purchase including originals and prints.  Contact me for details.
